Both Junee and Illabo Showgrounds, along with 18 other Showgrounds across the Cootamundra electorate, have shared in nearly $1.8 million from the COVID-19 stimulus package from the NSW Government
Junee Showgrounds received the largest sum of funding — $302,716, which will be used to renovate Lord Pavilion and construct a modern amenities block; as well as replacing ageing water pipes.
Illabo Showgrounds were awarded $144,786 to replace the old bar shed; upgrade the sheep yards; and install additional power systems through out the grounds for camping.
Not only do the Showgrounds themselves get a boost, so will the local tradies and suppliers who will undertake the upgrade the various projects.
Steph Cooke MP, Member for Cootamundra, said, when announcing the funding, “This is a fantastic result for many of our wonderful showgrounds who will now be able to undertake upgrades, build new infrastructure and improve these important community spaces.”
Minister for Water, Property and Housing Melinda Pavey said this funding is part of $25 million that will be spent over two years to improve showgrounds across the State. She also announced the NSW Government will allocating another $12.5 million for more work across showgrounds to be announced next financial year.
