Junee Can-Do Recycling Trailer funded

Thanks to the Foundation for Regional and Rural Renewal’s (FRRR) Strengthening Rural Communities Round 4 of funding, Junee Business and Trades Inc (JBT) have secured funding to create the Junee Can-Do Recycling Trailer.

The concept of creating the Junee Can-Do Recycling Trailer came after seeing the launch of the City of Wagga Wagga Council’s Community Cash 4 Cans trailer (CC4C) (pictured above) promoted in the Wagga Council News section of the Junee Southern Cross Newspaper

The Junee Can-Do Recycling Trailer will be made available to Not-for-Profit Community and Sporting groups based within Junee shire to use at their local events and festivals so attendees can easily dispose of their single use plastic bottles and cans, helping reduce litter around the event precinct. Once the festival or event has concluded, the trailer can be simply towed to a Return & Earn depot to cash in the empties.

Tony Butt, Chairperson of Junee Business and Trades said, “The Junee Can-Do Recycling Trailer will be a great incentive to keep our local event precincts tidy during the events and provide a source of income to reduce event overheads for the organisers.”

Festival organisers can either book the trailer for their own fundraising, or they can invite another local group (say the 1st Junee Scouts, the local schools, or local charities) to bring . Likewise, the community and village halls can do the same — either invite another group to participate at their event, or manage it themselves to help offset event costs.

When local sporting clubs are hosting Home Matches at one of Junee’s sporting fields or complexes, they can place the trailer near their canteen to collect the empty bottles and cans to raise additional money for their club(s).

It is envisaged that the Junee Can-Do Recycling Trailer will hold approximately 3,000 empty (uncrushed) bottles and cans — thus earning up to $300 for local community, sporting, or school groups.

The trailer will also house a couple of A-Frame Display Boards that will promote which local community or sporting group are currently using the Junee Can-Do Recycling Trailer to raise funds.

Also to be included with trailer will be pick up tools, gloves and baskets so volunteers can wander the event area and collect any empty cans or bottles lying around to add to the trailer and earn a few more dollars — but we hope there won’t be too many litter-bugs, as they should be depositing their empties straight in the Can-Do Trailer 🙂

When the fit out has been completed, which is expected to occur within the next few months, the Junee Can-Do Recycling Trailer will be listed in the Shared Resources section of the Junee Community Directory making it easy for groups to reserve the trailer.

Coursing Park Tennis and Community Centre Clubhouse Repair

Congratulations to Coursing Park Tennis and Community Centre for also successfully obtaining funding, through FRRR’s Strengthing Rural Community’s grant, to help people stay connected in Coursing Park through repairs to a damaged ceiling in the local Tennis Club and Community Centre.

This project is just the first of many planned upgrades and improvements to the facilities at Coursing Park and we look forward to seeing the re-vitalised site as it develops over time.
